2026 is underway: A busy start to the year with the CSER team!

As we step into 2026, it’s already shaping up to be a big and exciting year for the CSER team. Activity across our projects has been building from day one, with a full calendar of events, webinars and conferences already underway. We’re also looking ahead with great anticipation, with new opportunities set to roll out across the year.

CSER Team 2026

We began the year with a Back to School webinar series, supporting F-2 and Year 3-6 educators to plan and prepare for the year ahead and strengthen students’ mathematical skills. The webinars, lead by our Maths in Schools project officers, Sue Carter, Dr John West and Celia Coffa, engaged participants through fun, classroom-ready activities from our free Maths in Schools online courses. If you missed our Back to School webinars, you can now view them on demand on the Mathematics Hub website - a great way to revisit key ideas or catch up on practical strategies for your classroom.

QAMT 2026

The Maths in Schools team has also been out and about, connecting with educators. One of our first events for the year was the Queensland Association of Mathematics Teachers Early Years Primary Conference in Brisbane on March 1st. Our NT/QLD Project Officer, Sue Carter, led two engaging workshops: Creating Confident Mathematical Thinkers and Create Curiosity: Unlocking Maths with Micro:bit Games. Both sessions explored practical, classroom-ready approaches to building student confidence, curiosity and problem-solving skills through rich mathematical experiences and digital technologies.

Pi Day

Looking ahead, we’re excited to celebrate the International Day of Mathematics on March 14th - also known as Pi Day! The 2026 theme is Mathematics and Hope.

As part of preparing for Pi Day, join us for our upcoming Maths in Schools webinar, “Celebrate International Pi Day with us!” on March 10th. In this free 30-minute session, you’ll learn more about how to celebrate International Pi Day and explore the wonder and real-world power of π (3.14…). Discover why π matters while participating in hands-on activities designed for immediate classroom use. Perfect for primary and secondary classrooms, this session blends curiosity, creativity and practical teaching ideas to make Pi Day unforgettable. There’s still time to register for this webinar - we’d love to see you there.

Beebots and Bluebots in the Lending Library

The CSER National Lending Library continues to play an important role in supporting schools and communities across Australia with free, high-quality digital technologies tools and resources. A large number of kits have already been sent out to schools for Term 1, supporting hands-on learning with digital technologies in classrooms around the country. Educators can register their interest in our free Lending Library of digital technologies kits, including Bee-Bots, Blue-Bots, Spheros, Ozobots, micro:bits, KaiBots, AR and VR resources and more. If you’d like to bring these engaging tools into your classroom, you can find out more and register your interest through our website.

With so much already happening, 2026 promises to be a year filled with connection, creativity and collaboration. We’re looking forward to sharing many more events and opportunities with you soon.

Be sure to subscribe to our CSER eNewsletter to stay up to date with all the latest news and upcoming events.

These webinars and our participation in conferences is part of the Australian Government Maths in Schools: Teaching and Learning Resources to Support Mathematics project.
