Artificial Intelligence in Schools

The CSER Team has been delivering professional learning and support to educators in Artificial Intelligence since 2020. Our work aims at engaging students and supporting teacher professional development in this critical area.

Building skills beyond digital literacy, we need critical and creative thinkers who can incorporate artificial intelligence and emerging technologies into future problem solving. Such skills are critical to our future workforce and society.

CSER offers a range of free services to educators across Australia, including:

Experience AI

Experience AI, co-developed by Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google Deep Mind, is an educational programme offering cutting-edge resources on artificial intelligence and machine learning for teachers and students.

Complete the Expression of Interest form to join CSER for 6 hours of free Experience AI professional learning

Developed to support educators in an increasingly AI-driven world to inform and inspire the next generation. The materials have been localised to align to the Australian curriculum including real-world contexts to support the concepts being taught and which are relatable to young people.

We aim to support learners to become critical consumers and responsible creators of AI systems.

The programme offers free resources for teachers and professional development opportunities, providing you with everything you need to confidently deliver AI and machine-learning sessions in the classroom. Resources include lesson plans, slide decks, worksheets and videos.

All of the resources were developed using a research-informed approach and have been designed around core pedagogical principles.

Students will experience a variety of real-world AI applications and be made aware of the ever-increasing range of AI-related careers. As well as considering the social and ethical implications of AI developments, students will have the opportunity to explore machine learning models and the engines that make them work.

Importantly the resources have been designed so that teachers in a wide range of subjects can use them and no prior knowledge of AI is necessary.

CSER MOOCs -Teaching AI

Since 2020, CSER has offered free online professional learning to educators in teaching artificial intelligence in the classroom.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is driving the next wave of technological innovation and is changing almost every industry around us. With the expansion and ubiquity of AI being a motivating factor in decisions and the need for all students to develop their understanding of computer science, it is logical that students also need to develop their understanding of AI itself. CSER courses are self-paced, evidence-based and attract a certificate of completion. AI in the National Lending Library

Since 2016, CSER has built and delivered the National Lending Library to schools across Australia.

The library contains a range of classroom kits offering a variety of technologies including AI powered platforms and kits such as DelightEx and KaiLab, as well as VR, AR and a great range of robots. Kits are supported with lesson plans developed by the CSER team aligned to the Australian Curriculum to support integration of  AI and related technologies implementation in the classroom.
