OAC School of the Air

As the 2025 school year draws to a close, we have enjoyed hearing from educators about the creative ways their students have engaged with our CSER Lending Library kits in their classrooms around the country.

Students from Open Access College – School of the Air, Port Augusta campus in South Australia, travelled from remote locations across the state to gather for a week in Coober Pedy for their annual mini schools event. During this time, they utilised the Kai's Clan Robotics Kit borrowed from the CSER Lending Library to give students a hands-on opportunity to explore robotics and STEM learning. These interactive Kai's Clan robots are built for collaboration, transforming programming into a shared challenge which fosters teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity.

Rhys Moyne, a teacher from the school, shared the students' experiences and activities with the Kai's Clan robots, highlighting how the older students in Years 4–6 supported and mentored the younger students (Reception–Year 3) as they learned to program the Kai's Clan robots to move around the mat and operate the grippers. Rhys explained that although face-to-face time is limited at the School of the Air, the students made the most of their session together to engage with the robotics activity.

One of the students shared their experience:
"On Thursday we got to play with robotics with Mr Moyne. It was hard, but we tried our best and, in the end, when all the tech was working, we had a lot of fun."

Many thanks to Rhys Moyne and the staff and students at Open Access College – School of the Air for sharing their hands-on learning with the Kai's Clan Kit from the CSER Lending Library. We’re thrilled you had so much fun exploring coding, problem-solving and teamwork!

If you would like to find out more and register your interest in borrowing a Kai's Clan kit or any of our other robotics, AR, and VR kits, please visit our Lending Library page and join the CSER Lending Library community. It’s a great time to start planning ahead for 2026!

With thanks to the support of the Australian Government Department of Education.
