CSER Ozobots

It's been another busy term in the CSER National Lending Library! Our free Digital Technologies kits continue to provide great opportunities for students to explore, play and problem-solve with STEM within their own classrooms around the country. Our Ozobot Kits are a great example, allowing students to experience hands-on learning in a variety of ways including colour coded mapping and coding with algorithms.

Thank you to Cherie Redwood, an educator at Netley Kindergarten in South Australia, who recently shared how she used one of our popular Ozobot Kits to introduce technology in a fun and exciting way with her kindergarten children. Cherie explained, "An interesting and unexpected outcome of the children's engagement with the Ozobots was how it supported their regulation and slowed down their bodies whilst they used their mark-making to make clear "maps" for the Ozobots to travel on. They focused their attention for extended periods, in a calm and relaxed manner, watching the Ozobots travel around their maps.”  Cherie continued, “The children who were initially hesitant to have a go became more confident as they watched their peers engage. What helped was that there were more than enough Ozobots to go around." - August 2024. Thank you to Cherie and the staff and students at Netley Kindergarten for sharing their experiences with one of the CSER Lending Library's Ozobot kits.

Our robotics kits align to our DT + X Course - Sustainability and Climate theme. This course is designed to build teachers' confidence in integrating Digital Technologies (V9.0) with other learning areas and to incorporate the Australian Curriculum cross-curriculum priorities across Foundation to Year 6. The Lending Library kits feature robots with activities and lesson plans to support students to engage with the cross-curriculum priority of Sustainability, enabling students to drive their autonomous vehicles (ozobots) through their own sustainable city design.

A Northern Territory school who recently borrowed one of our Ozobot kits shared with us that their students always looked forward to using the Ozobots. Raphael, an educator from the school said, "All the students could engage (with the technology) and lessons could easily be differentiated. Even students with profound motor disabilities were able to draw (maps) and found joy when the robot would follow their lines." Raphael added, "The students really enjoyed it and interacted with technology in a new way which improved their relationship with the technology.' Thank you to Raphael in the NT for sharing their students' positive digital technology experiences with our Lending Library kit.

Our library contains a variety of robotics, AR and VR kits. If you'd like to become a part of the CSER National Lending Library community, please register your interest in borrowing one of our Digital Technologies Kits below.

With thanks to the support of the Australian Government Department of Education.
