Mathematical Modelling, Maths Investigations and Explicit Teaching: The evidence-based pedagogies that underpin the Maths in Schools approach

Join us on campus at The University of Adelaide for our latest free Maths in Schools workshop. The Maths in Schools Professional Learning project provides free resources and support for teachers wishing to build their understanding of proven instructional methods for teaching mathematics effectively. In this session, John will demonstrate how mathematical modelling, maths investigations and explicit teaching are complementary approaches that combine effectively to produce confident and competent users of mathematics. Bring along any questions you might have and take away a range of classroom-ready resources to inspire your students.

Tuesday 3rd December, 4:00pm - 4:30pm ACDT - National Webinar

First Nations Australian counting systems in the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics for F-6 educators

In collaboration with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mathematics Alliance (ATSIMA), we invite you to a new webinar showcasing maths situations in First Nations Australian counting systems, and related content in the maths curriculum and the Maths in Schools online courses. A rich variety of counting systems will be considered plus different number-words and the use of body-tallying. Learning about First Nations Peoples’ counting systems enables students to investigate and develop number sense by connecting culture with mathematics in relevant ways. Participants will be able to access supporting materials such as Teacher Background Information that provides detailed information covered in the webinar.
